Jewish Women and Girls in the Greater Washington DC Region

Preventing Falls Among Seniors,  “Sure Feet: A Fall Prevention Program,” IONA Senior Services and the Washington DC Jewish Community Center, $13,000 — Senior women participate in a year-long initiative including tai chi classes, home assessments, and training to empower women to advocate for improved safety of public spaces.

Non-Violent Conflict Resolution, “Mapping Girl World: Educating Teachers to Empower Girls and Subvert Relational Aggression,” The Jewish Primary Day School of the Nation’s Capital, $4,500 — Trains the school’s faculty to identify hidden forms of aggression among girls and promote pro-social behaviors and constructive conflict resolution among female students, and refine the school’s evolving Rabin curriculum on non-violent conflict resolution to reflect issues specifically pertaining to girls.

Healthy Relationships and Sexuality, “Mind, Body, Attitude (MBA),” BBYO Northern Region East, $5,220 — A year-long program that empowers nearly 500 local teen girls with greater self-confidence and awareness in the areas of sexuality and healthy relationships.

Addressing Issues Faced by Adolescent Girls,  Rosh Hodesh: It’s a Girl Thing,” Moving Traditions, $1,500) — Conduct a feasibility study to  ascertain the best strategies for promoting the program to Jewish institutions throughout greater Washington, D.C. The curriculum provides a Jewish framework for helping pre-teen and teenage girls confront the issues they struggle with in an engaging, fun and girl-friendly environment.

Israel-Based Programs

Professional Services, Economic Empowerment for Women (EEW), $7,000 — Business consulting and other support services for 120 women whose micro-enterprise endeavors were seriously damaged by the war in Lebanon.

Professional Services, Mahut: Information, Guidance and Employment for Women, $3,000 — Direct service provision to low-income women in the Haifa vicinity who have become unemployed due to the war. Direct services include telephone outreach, support groups and additional job placement services.
